Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened at room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese preferably sharp
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles optional, for tang
  • 1 cup chopped toasted nuts pecans, walnuts, or almonds
  • 2 tbsp fresh chopped herbs parsley, chives, or dill

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Plastic wrap
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and use a spatula to beat it until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  2. Add shredded cheddar and blue cheese crumbles to the bowl. Mix thoroughly until all cheeses are evenly incorporated and the mixture is slightly fluffy.
  3. Use your hands or a spatula to shape the cheese mixture into a rough sphere, pressing gently to compact it into a smooth ball.
  4. Wrap the cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to let the flavors meld and the shape firm up.
  5. Once chilled, remove the cheese ball from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to soften slightly for easier rolling.
  6. Spread the chopped toasted nuts and herbs on a large plate. Gently roll the chilled cheese ball in the mixture, pressing lightly to ensure an even coating.
  7. Place the coated cheese ball on a serving plate. Garnish with additional herbs or nuts if desired. Serve with crackers, sliced bread, or vegetable sticks for dipping.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in spices or smoked paprika. Make ahead for best flavor development—up to 24 hours in advance. Keep refrigerated and serve at room temperature for optimal taste.
